I had an interesting client recently in my practice as a Child Health Nurse.
Mother is an insulin dependant diabetic with 2nd baby, now 7 months old. She
had been unwell from about 2 months post delivery. Feeling weak, tired, no
strength, also suffering from carpal tunnell syndrome, oedematous face and
swollen vocal cords with a husky voice. One other symtom she displayed was
an increase in lactation and engorged breasts. Her Endocrinologist and
Metabolic Physican indicated that this was a sure sign of Post Partum
Hypothyriodism although no-one knows why. I was so relieved when she finally
sought help and now she looks and feels so much better whilst taking a small
dose of thyroxine each day.
Has anyone else has a similar experience with any of their clients?
