Hello Lacnetters:
I have a question regarding breast pain that begins approximately 10-15
minutes after a nursing.
One of our local Midwives had a client with this & it is only after a
feeding.
This mother is 7 wks postpartum. Has had 2-3 bouts of mastitis with ABX
treatment.
At the present which was today the breast tissue looked healthy, there was
no signs of candida and this mother says that it doesn't hurt while nursing
just about 10-15 minutes after nursing, she rate the pain 7 out of 10 ( on
the 0-10 pain rating scale). Is afebrile and does not feel sick.
She called asking me what I thought she should do. I initially felt as
though it could be an abscess
but then with the information that I received I thought that it could be a
vasospasm, but she felt the baby was attaching and the breast was not being
blanched in anyway because there was not any trauma that she could see. She
is unable to palpate any lumps. Could there be an abscess deep into the
breast where you are unable to really palpate?
Any thoughts are appreciated
Thank you,
Jean
