Gosh, what a shock for this poor mother, and to have people suggesting that
it is something she did that caused it! Wouldn't the nurse who assisted in
placing the baby back in the bassinette have noticed something was wrong, if
the baby was already dead by that point?

What I keep thinking is that perhaps this family should be encouraged to go
with the autopsy, as hard as that would be for them, right now. This mother
is going to have to live with this tragedy every day for the rest of her
life, and how she deals with it will affect the whole family. If there is
an explanation for the baby's death, she needs to know what it is, in order
to work through her grief in a healthy manner. Even if the cause of death
could not be determined, perhaps suffocation could at least be ruled out.
It is hard enough for a mother to live with the death of a child, without
having to deal with doubts about whether she might have done something that
caused it.

Aloha,
Darillyn
