First time mom, baby now 3 1/2 months old. Active, alert, seems on track.
Nurses happily .Birth weight 6'3", at 2 months 10"4, at this time MD said baby
was in 10% weight chart and mom must supplement with ABM. Baby now nurses " a
lot" per mom and receives 2 oz ABM 8 times a day.Weight now 12'6" . Mom has
N_______ Pump and can not ever pump more than 1 oz(Both breasts). Because of
finances, can't rent another pump.(With M_____ pump today only a few drops.)
Mom states she was flat prior to pregnancy, breast now are little more than
flesh behind a tiny areola and nipple. Pump barely pulls breast into it, even
with small nipple adapter. Mom now has SNS and plans to use after feeding
first at breast, when baby begins to fuss, get restless. She will use ABM in
SNS until she increases her milk and can replace with BM. Questions? Can
breasts be too small for a pump to ever work? Will the N______ pump "help" (?)
increase the supply? How much ABM should be decreased to safely get baby taking
more BM? If pump will not draw breast into it, any other suggestions other than
baby? Mom only wants to Breast Feed. I figure that and the fact that baby
likes to nurse is a plus!
Thanks for all suggestions.
Susan
