at my institution, if a mom is bf and the baby needs supplementing (or more
likely the mom chooses to combine breast and formula feeding :( then the
pediatrician and nursery staff will insist the baby recieve soy formula.
after reading the aap website (american academy of pediatrics) a long while
ago, i concluded there was no benefit or reason for doing so. yet tis seems
an ingrained practice and i've heard nurses tell parents it's becoz of the
lactose intolerance (bunk.)
