Becky,

The reason she needs ammunition is that at her hospital (this was an e-mail
question, she lives in Canada) starts to give ABM to all babies that have any
weight loss, the parents will tell them to give their babies nothing other than
breast milk, but if the weight loss looks like it might go near 10% they give
the ABM behind the parents back. This happens to everyone and most recently her
sister. So she wants to avoid it during her next birth. The question about
over 10% weight loss was is that the only time that ABM should given, not that
all weight loss should be ignored as normal.

Just want to clear that up, she is talking about the normal newborn weight loss
(from the extra fluids that many babies have to last until the milk comes in)
and how to avoid the ABM behind parents back (written orders on the babies
chart mean nothing). Which is why she wants medical journal articles, since
references from books written for lay people are ignored.
