I send a cover letter thanking the doc for the opportunity to work with their patient with a brief synopsis of my assessment and plan of care for the patient. ...I also copy the consult sheet to him/her as well. I can send you a sample if you'd like. I find if it's lengthy, chances are they won't read the whole thing.
