The websites I've seen which talk about pacifier use, and the creation of
"habits," suggest simply "popping it out at 5-6 months, and throwing it
away. The baby won't remember it for long."

These babies will have been put to bed, for 5-6 months, with a tool, and the
parent is supposed to throw away the tool after 5-6 months with no
consequence? How, exactly, is a parent supposed to get a child to sleep,
during the challenging months before the 1-year birthday, with all of the
milestones coming up, and no tool? The child is learning to crawl and walk,
there are teeth coming in, language is developing - these are times when
many of us frequently see a disruption of sleep because the child is so
immersed in the new skills and breakthroughs it carries into the night time
hours.

How many babies will be shaken at the hands of aggravated parents? How many
babies will be left to cry, because the tool was "simply popped out and
thrown away."

How many parent will not be able to throw away the tool with which their
child has become attached, and will continue to use it for 2-3 years? And,
how many orthodontic/speech difficulties will we see with a generation that
has a high pacifier use?

Best wishes from cold and rainy Ohio,
