Our mom (Marie Davis) asked that we let you know haw bad things were going.
She had the initial hip surgery on 4/23 and was home. On Sunday, 5/4 she woke
up with blood under her in the bed. There was one little hole from a staple
that was slowly dripping blood, we put a bandage over it but it wouldn't
stop. The drips be came a heavy stream. The paramedics took her to the
hospital at noon. They bandaged it some more and were going to do surgery
right away but her doctor said he wanted to give her antibiotics for a day
and check it again. The bleeding seemed to have stopped in the emergency
room. They said she had only a low grade fever so she could wait.
Mom started having a fever Sunday afternoon. Monday morning when the doctor
took the bandage off, blood began gushing from a new dime-sized hole and her
white cell count was 45000 Because the hospital was so buzy (accidents and
emergencies) they didn't get her into surgery until 12 am early Tuesday
morning. Her temperature was 104.9 as they began surgery.
They had to drain and clean an abscess and replace the parts they just put in
just in case they had any germs in them.
Mom said to tell you it is: staff or-i-us and the type that antibiotics will
help. She was brought home yesterday. They will have nurses for her and
Rachel's helping with the IV antibiotics thru the pick line. The rest of us
are keeping things quiet and clean. Mom is still very sick and weak. She
sleeps only a little at a time.
She is going to be fine, but she's been crying a lot and seems really sad.
She says she feels really alone, (Don't tell her I told ya). This time we're
worried about her. Think maybe some of you guys can cheer her up a little?
We'll make sure she gets the emails. We'd all like to see her with her
fight back.
Thanks
