Absolutely right. In the UK, there is always a midwife present after a
section, whose job it is to ensure the mother can ensure a good position
and latch. Not all of them are as wonderful as they should be in ensuring
this, but that's the idea.

Midwives are trained in this, and there is enough emphasis on Baby
Friendly, even in the 'bad' places, for early feeding to be mainstream
thinking now, and for mothers and babies not to be separated unless truly
unavoidable. Of course, there is still poor practice - often through
thoughtlessness rather than anything else. I occasionally have to help a
mother who did not have help to feed her baby for two or three hours or
even more after the birth, but this is a result of her being 'forgotten'
about. She may have had a section, and was out of it, and her baby was out
of it, and they were brought to the ward, and then.....just ignored.
