Just to add my bit to the pertussis discussion, a friend's baby developed
pertussis at 4 weeks recently, while exclusively breastfed. He was in
hospital for 11 days and a very sick little boy indeed. After he came home
he improved slowly but then developed a cold which stirred up the disease.
At 3 months he is still at home, but very unwell and "whooping".
And in Sydney last weekend, whooping cough claimed the life of a second baby
in four weeks.
