Dear Rebecca, I'm aware of a connection between anemia and mastitis/plugged
ducts, but not between anemia and low supply.  Thal is a genetic variation
that developed around the Mediterrean in response to malaria.  I think
sickle cell  has the same sort of root.  If they were unable to produce milk
their babies wouldn't have survived and the genetic mutation would have
ended.  That might be too simple an explanation.............
Yes, anemia, especially severe, makes a new mom tired.  Blood loss may cause
Sheehan's syndrome - no  milk at all.  But like you I just don't get the
total connection.  Maybe Jean will come up with one of her fabulous
physiologic explanations :-)  I loved the one on areolas today.  Sincerely,
