Dear all,

After all the pacifier posts of the last couple of days, I guess God decided
I needed a gift. Went in to make rounds at the hospital today....

New mom, third baby. She nursed her first for 2 years, through her pregnancy
and about 6 weeks postpartum. She nursed her second for 15 months, and was
really disappointed when she weaned on her own. I asked her how long she
wanted to nurse this one, and she shrugged and said, "As long as he is interested."
That was enough to make my day, but then she topped it by telling me that
HER mother had nursed her for 2 years (in 1972!!), and told her that when her
brother was born, Lisa (the new mother) was then 5, and wanted to know if she
could nurse too. Her mom popped her on her lap and Lisa nursed for a minute or
two, and then announced that "that milk is for babies." Her mom had also
told her that Andrew (her 3 1/2 year old) may want to nurse again when he sees
Jonathan at the breast, and if he did -- just put him up on her lap, and go to
it. What a terrific grandmother!

This is the first mom I've seen in a long time who was actually "nursing,"
(not just "breastfeeding") her newborn baby.

What a treat!
