Mastitis is almost always caused by Staphylococcus aureus (the reason
amoxycillin is *so* inappropriate for mastitis).  We have always said
that the mother gets it from the baby, but actually I don't know where
that information came from.  Nevertheless, since they are always in
such intimate contact, mothers and babies do share the same bugs.
