The CDC seeks to support impact evaluations (i.e. changes in rates of
breastfeeding initiation, continuation, exclusivity, etc.) of existing
or planned breastfeeding interventions that include comparisons between
control and intervention populations and/or compare breastfeeding rates
before and after program implementation. There is a strong interest for
collaboration on evaluation projects of existing or planned
breastfeeding interventions at the local, state, or national levels. The
objective of this project is the development of knowledge regarding the
effectiveness of programs that promote and support breastfeeding in the
United States.

The guidance for applying for the 2004 Breastfeeding Evaluation Research
Projects is now available at:
http://www.cdc-cafunding.org/start.htm

about who may apply for these opportunities, click on "2004 Research
Project Areas" and scroll to the third opportunity: "2004-R-03

full information about this PEP. The funding amount this year is
$100,000 per project, funded for one year. The direct link to the

There are many innovative interventions that protect, promote, and
support breastfeeding. Please consider using this funding opportunity
to evaluate your intervention, which can expand the canon of
evidence-based practice in breastfeeding and more effectively
disseminate this important information about interventions that work.
Consider establishing partnerships with folks who are affiliated with
one of the coordinating organizations if you are not currently
affiliated with one of them.

Sincerely,

Katherine Shealy
