As the original poster of the toddler who needs a T&A, I'd like to thank all
who've responded.  Some of you have questioned the need for surgery now, as I
did, but I spoke with this mom today (she'd emailed me initially; I know her
from previous work with her) and this child has hx of frequent ear
infections, frequent night waking with sleep apnea or at least difficulty
nose breathing, and her tonsils and adenoids are huge and obstructive.

I've discussed asking this ENT for his references, getting a second opinion,
having her BF friendly pediatrician confer with ENT and explaining to ENT how
toddler and infant suck differ.  Mom informed me that ENT is saying a sippy
cup is ok and she can pump; we concur he's missing the point of need for this
child's breastfeeding.  I have also observed toddlers drink from these cups
and they suck from them.

Will keep all informed with the end result.  If anyone knows an ENT colleague
their opinion would be welcomed.  (Jack Newman happens to be away just now so
no wisdom from him--Dr. Gordon, Dr. Leeper, et al any comments?)
