I have heard Larry Gartner speak on jaundice and he does say that something
in infant formula (might be iron, can't remember exactly what) binds with the
bilirubin and, I think, it then prevents the re-uptake of the bili.  Bili
sitting in the bowel is reabsorbed if not excreted.  Of course, good feedings
of breastmilk will get the baby stooling lots and excreting the bili.  Also,
getting rid of bili fastest may not necessarily be best for baby since in
normal physiologic jaundice the anti-oxidant properties of bilirubin may
actually be of benefit to the baby.
