I went 18 mo, 2 yrs, and 2.5 yrs after each of my kid's births. I generally
gained 40 lbs and ate meat. I agree with Rachel that the critical aspects
of LAM are the no bleeding after lochia, 24 hr breast stimulation, and no
other foods before 6 mo. Beyond that are the individual aspects that are
poorly studied, and perhaps idiosyncratic. The failure rate of LAM is 1-2%
according to the Bellagio consensus. That's about the failure rate of the
Pill. Trouble is, when any method of contraception fails you are 100%
pregnant. I have a relative who got preg. using an IUD, diaphragm, and the
mini-pill. The woman was incredibly fertile.
