Annelies,  Thank you for the correction.  Dr. Rogan in an e-mail to me
stated that,"There is no question that chemicals like PCBs and DDT
appear in breast milk and are absorbed by the infant.  The issue is
whether that exposure results in any harm to the infant, and if it does,
is it greater than the benefit."  He mentions a review he did a couple
of years ago  Rogan WJ.  Pollutants in breast milk.  Arch Pediatr
Adolesc Med,150:981-990, 1996.  He also mentions that the American
Academy of Pediatrics just published their handbook of Pediatric
Environmental Health, which has a chapter on breast milk. His comments
sound similiar to what we say about breastfeeding and medication.
