First, I like it that you call it suck confusion and not nipple confusion, as
in my experience all replacements for breast suckling can cause problems in
the sense of confusion or preference.
I humbly disagree with Chloe Fischer (as quoted by Pat). I see soooo many
moms who received routine bottled supplements in hospital for normal healthy
term newborns, like night feeds or questionable glucose supplements. It just
is not a logical idea that so many babies are born with an inability or a
decreased ability to obtain food from the natural source. And it is not
incidently that I homevisit moms and see a collection of 5-6 different
pacifiers to choose, from giftpacks both welcome/felicitas packets as gifts
that can be bought for babyshowers (like a baby cream, baby hair lotion, wash
cloth and pacifier in a nice basket or a giant baby bottle with soap,
ointment, pacifier; etc).
And remember my post on the TV show the other day? It's very common for
fathers while they are waiting till mom is washed etc to put his little
finger in the crying baby's mouth to comfort him.
Really, in my corner of the world, it is vcery common that babies have had
other things than mom's nipple in their mouth befoire ever latching or i the
first hours and days without there being any feeding problem whatsoever. The
problems are there when I'm called in at day 15 or 21 or even later, when
baby s frantic, mom in blood sweat and tears and I desperately trying to
figure out how to get the baby too open his mouth any more than a milimeter
or 2-3 and suckling the breast without a Meggie Simpson appearance.

Whow, you got me on my soap box with this new discussion!

Warmly greeting,
