I know we are not supposed to post personal things here, but
this woman sounds like me! My baby (and I ) has a high
anterior arched palate, and this became a problem after I
introduced a bottle so Dad and Grandma could feed her. Her
latch became awful, she would get all clicky and it felt
just like she had pins in her mouth when feeding. My nipple
would look compressed, (almost like an orthodontic bottle
nipple) after feedings and I was sure she was drawing blood
the pain was so bad. Turns out she was compressing the
nipple in the arch of her palate and kind of squashing it.
Her latch looked great from the outside, and she was still
getting milk, but mostly foremilk so she was miserable. I
guess she did this because it worked with the bottle nipple.

To correct it we (LC and I) used a combination of suck
training and a slightly different latch technique that the
LC had read about in an article in either MIDIRS or JHL. I
can get the reference if necessary.

It is working, slowly but surely, and this child is now
sworn off of bottles! ANyone know of a useful cup to try
with a very active 10 week old??
