At least with a hand pump, she has something that can be used for more
than one purpose. The point I was trying to make (it's hard to be clear
sometimes, isn't it?) is that:
1) there are things that can be used that cost less $$
2) this is something that we don't use often but if they are on the
supply cart and anyone can grab one, they will be given out in
unnecessary situations (how many of us have heard about "the patient
with inverted nipples - that aren't?"
3) do we have to use a million gadgets? I work in the inner city. I have
patients who tell me "i just couldn't breast feed, I couldn't afford...a
pump...a pillow...special bras...whatever. (which we all know aren't
good reasons.
I guess I am becoming a minimalist in my old age. Those of you that
have known me a long time know that I used to work for a pump company.
But I do believe there are times you just don't need one.
