I found this on AOL news today.  Evidently, in an attempt to have their
children speak better English South Koreans are having frenotomies performed on
their children from about 1 yr old-10 yr.  I wonder if ankyloglossia is more
common among Koreans?  Is breastfeeding the norm?  The article, unfortunately
makes it seem as if frneotomy is brutal, using terms like "slicing" and .."Chop a
little bit off your tongue..."

It (the article) brings to mind a baby I saw several yrs ago who was tongue
tied and mom, who was Eastern European, said to me that she wouldn't have a
frenotomy because her husband had the same thing (tongue tie) and she thought his
speech impediment was cute/endearing.  Cultural influences are interesting.
