Yes, I would agree this sounds like vasospasm following nipple damage,
and yes, it can be unilateral if the damage is worse on one side than
the other.

Would try avoiding cold (cover up ASAP) and vit B6 150 mg/day to break
the cycle.  It seems the hypoxia to the tissues during vasospasm can
cause enough damage to keep this cycly going after the original insult
is gone. (Poor latch, tongue-tie, yeast)
