«I am not convinced that baby can not
feel it. If baby can not feel the cutting, then there is something else
that I expect happens that terrorises the child, though what it is I have no
idea.»

This is my feeling, Ruth. Either they can feel it as pain, or they feel
SOMETHING...maybe just pulling on the navel area? I just wonder who decided
(proved?) that there are no nerve endings in the umbilical cord, or that
they stop abruptly at a certain place...I mean a baby obviously has to have
nerve endings on its tummy, up to where the cord comes out...why not further
along?

:-)
