Hi again

My question to all of you out there, especially hospital based LC's is, do
you have policies that address finger and cup feeding? If yes, can
you/would you share? (read on, there's another question at the end)

One of our NNP's is challenging the practice of cup and finger feeding. He
cites NANN's position which he summarized as follows: "The existing
scientific data are insufficient to either support or refute implementation
of the practices of cup and finger feeding of expressed breast milk to
newborns, especially to premature and high-risk infants." It goes on to
suggest these techniques only be practiced within a clinical evaluation
protocol."

I have searched Yahoo, I have searched Lactnet and our Librarian is also
searching. I contacted ILCA and am still waiting for one reply.

Since we have NNP's and neonatologists here our term babies have
become "ill until proven otherwise". My apologies for all who don't share
this philosophy.

And, while I'm at it, how many RN, LC's who are not working as a mother
baby or L&D nurse need to be NRP certified?

It's been a long day... I look forward to reading lots of replies.

Thanks

Christine
