Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb. My friend/pediatrician nursed her
three girls (triplets), while also mothering her four and six year old boys.
How did she do it? With the confidence that comes from having successfully
breastfed before, with the knowledge that others had gone before her (I shared
articles with her), with a whole army of helpers from her church for months
and months, with the whole-hearted support and encouragement, of her husband,
and with (deep breath before I plunge on) a schedule.
She talked with another friend/mother of twins who found that life was
pure chaos with no schedule, and manageable with a schedule.
She used no schedule with her singletons, and was *very* flexible about
the schedule with her triplets, including refeeding the one who had reflux and
threw up most meals. But a schedule, such as it was, helped create a little
order in her day and in her family.
Of course I, who has a file full of articles blasting the infamous
foolishness of babywise, I who had my three babies one at a time, did not have
much to say about what was working for them. And she still took the time to
nurse each one alone once each day :-). Wow. What a woman!
