In a message dated 98-05-30 09:19:54 EDT, you write:

<< In British English, too, there is a well-known phrase which compares any
delicious and welcome drink to mother's milk. You might give someone a beer on
a hot day and ask them if they're enjoying it, and you might get the reply -
'mmmmmm...it's like mother's milk!' >>

Sadly enough, you are more likely to have the drink spewed out in revulsion if
you compare it to breastmilk.

Interesting article covers some of this...

Morse, Janice M. 1989. " 'Euch, Those Are For Your Husband!' Examination of
Cultural Values and Assumptions Associated with Breastfeeding." Health Care
for Women International 11: 223-232.

Note: Euch is a Scottish word that expresses a disgust beyond the US word
"yuck".

In 1983, researchers examined attitudes toward foodstuffs. College students
were asked to describe/rate nonfoods (such as grass, cockroaches, dirt, etc.);
foods that are considerede taboo by some religions (pork for Jews); and foods
that were often allergenic. In this test, human milk was rated as
"inappropriate" as grass and dirt. and was correlated (r = .77) with "mild
digust". This category contained foods that were rejected simply for the IDEA
of what the food is...the thought of eating them caused nausea in the study.
Foods were rejected if subjects knew they were "contaminated" with even an
infinitesimal amount (say, a drop of breastmilk).

Interesting and sad, huh?

So, your answer is no. Americans don't analogize a delicious or especially
thirst quenching drink with mother's milk.
