This is only personal experience. Personally, I couldn't stand ginger in
pregnancy or out of it.
I found a GP (family doctor) who did acupuncture and I found that incredibly
helpful. After a few sessions he was happy to teach my husband (who had
worked for him as a medical student) how to do it, which meant I was having
it about every two days.
The other thing that I remember being taught from my days as a student
midwife, and that worked for me was eating before you get vertical. A piece
of toast in bed before even sitting up made the difference between vomiting
and not vomiting in the shower.
Finally, if this mum has an obliging partner, get them to do all the
cooking. She will probably know of certain smells that aggravate the
nausea - for me it was onions.
