Thanks so much Ellen for this insight and for sharing your personal
experience with it.  How hard it must have been to live with this
and not to be able to share it with those closest to you!  It is
another area we need to be aware of as we consider all the factors
that may enter into a mom's behavior/attitudes.
It is easy to say we need to walk in the other person's shoes, but
you can never be that same person, in the same situation, with the
same other factors in one's life, at the same stage in the person's
life, etc. etc. etc.  This is why it bugs me so when anyone says
something like, "Well, I certainly would never...." or "I had the
same problem and.........worked for me, so it should work for
everyone." or "Why don't you just....?"  To keep with the shoes
analogy.  The other person's shoes will not fit anyone else the
same.  Your comfortable shoes have been worn into what fits your
individual feet the best or you would stop wearing them!
