Sounds like this little one has sensory processing issues.

Dear Colleagues:
This may be true; the baby is only a week old now. She was taken by
cesarean section early (no labor) and handled by many strangers. She was also a
victim of forced latch on in the hospital. Add that to this baby's temperament
and individual response to stimulation and I believe all those those factors
are the reason for this baby's quick trigger. I was a stranger, interfering
and that set the baby off. As she is iatrogenically premature, her need for
no distractions during feeding goes along with being premature.
I remember my second baby, who was intubated at birth for thick
meconium.............she startled and cried hard whenever anyone came towards her
wearing blue scrubs; she had learned and remembered that people in blue scrubs
bring pain.
Mom just came home 2 days ago; feeding is going easier now. Mom also has
huge breasts, large nipples (with abrasions and soreness) and has opted to
pump and bottle-feed until her nipples heal. Meanwhile, there is lots of
skin-to-skin and plenty of milk. We will try again at breast when the mother feels
ready.
I will keep you posted. I apologized to the mother and stressed my
commitment to help her until her goals are reached.
    warmly,
