I have been reading all the posts lately and wanting to write, but not
quite sure on how to phrase my answer. On the infertility & tongue
suckers - let us not forget that we are dealing with human beings. I
truly hate to buck medical science but after 42 years of life, 22 years
of mothering and 6 years as an LLL Leader, I have come to realize that
humans don't react 'by the book.' Our group has had several moms who had
to go to specialists to conceive, some weaned before going for second
attempt - some did not. All were successful. We had one mom, nursing a
2+ toddler who only nursed one or two times a day, who still had no
cycle or period and was unable to conceive - so go figure. My point is -
we need to not classify situations as always, never, ever, should, must
- and all those other adjectives that do not seem to apply to humans,
because as soon as you do - someone points out the opposite.
My thought for the day concerns the young MD in FL - I wish him the
best and concer with the group that I wish he were here! But in that
line, how are we going to get more of the HCPs on the right track. To
me, they don't seem to be reading the journals and keeping up with the
changes and research being done - shame on them. What I don't think they
realize is that when a patient is educated or knowledgeable on a topic,
it reduces the patient's confidence in that HCP and the entire medical
profession.
An idea I had was for evey mom helped by either LLL or and LC
(whether by phone, group, hospital, WIC, peer counseling, a class -
whatever) sent $1.00 for each child (not each situation) to the group
earmarked for HCP education & PSAs - what a winfall that would be. It
wouldn't strain the finances of the moms out there, as some of the
financial requests do. And I think if well advertised - it may make a
point at how many moms have been helped by these groups. This is just an
idea from someone sitting in a quiet house on a beautiful morning with
nothing else to do.
