I have a chart in my office (cant' remeber the source, sorry) that gives
estimated bili levels like:
jaundice on eyes/face = 5
jaundice on extremities but not palms and soles = 12 to 15 (not sure of
these numbers b/c I am at home).

Since jaundice came up I was wondering if anyone uses this as an
estimate? The reason I ask is I had a 3 day old baby come in with a
young G1P1 mom this week for engorgement/refine latching. Baby was
pee'ing 8x/24 hr and stooling 10x. Mom was letting down and dripping all
over the place. Stools green-yellow and seedy. The baby was jaundiced on
extremities but not palms and soles. The pedi had seen the child
yesterday at hosp d/c and told mom to put by sunny window and no other
interventions and return to pedi at 2 wks. Under these conditions, I
faxed report to ped but did not have mom go in for blood work. Do you
all agree? What would you have done? PS - today engorgement is much
better, latching etc all ok.
