It is possible to pass peanut protein into breast milk -- at least according
to the allergist caring for a young client of mine. He thinks that the
mother sensitized baby in utero and through nursing to peanut protein.
Baby's first exposure to a nibble of a peanut butter cookie at age 11 mo.
put infant in hospital with anaphylactic shock. The red flag was family
history of asthma. I just saw a baby this week whose parents, when queried
about allergic history informed me dad has a peanut allergy. I suggested
mom avoid peanuts in her diet to avoid sensitizing baby, who has, obviously,
half of dad's genetic coding and who may have inherited the allergy.
