Hello!

At the meeting with my local hospital to finalize the mandatory in-service that I will be
teaching for their OB & Maternity nurses, the issue of pacifiers came up in our discussion, and
their abuse by some of the nurses. I mentioned to the Nurse-Manager of Maternity that maybe
she should consider having parents sign an informed consent form before the pacifier is
distributed, which would list all the the risks of pacifier use to the breastfed infant.

As this would also protect the hospital from liability, she was very interested in this idea
and asked me to send her whatever I have on the subject.

I have one on nipple shields that I will send her. Not being one to like re-inventing the
wheel, I was hoping that some of you out there might use just such an informed consent for
pacifiers in your own institutions. If so, would you please contact me, so that I can get a
copy from you?

Thank you so much in advance!
