Hi John,
       I feel your essay, in your own words, is "well written and well said".
However, that is what Lutheran's are, unfortunately at least at Trinity. I
chose to no longer be a Lutheran and I have found exactly what you describe
in my new church. It was a difficult decision, but I am so happy that I made
it and I will NEVER go back to being a Lutheran.
       As for you, it is clear that you know and read the scripture. This
ultimately leads us to a personal relationship with Jesus which is the goal.
       Pray for guidance is my only advice.
