Re: Drying up milk for the mom relinquishing her baby to adoption:

1. Express or pump to remove enough milk to be comfortable as often as
necessary, probably every few hours. If less than 80% of the milk is
removed, supply will decrease. Any milk collected can be saved for burns
and other uses.
2. Wrap the breasts in cabbage compresses and change them when they get
soggy. Continue at least several days.
3. Sage tea might help a little.
4. Do NOT limit fluids. Drink to thirst. Eat normally
5. Birth control pills may help, if her doctor is willing to have her begin
taking them early postpartum.
6. Do NOT bind the breasts. Kathy Swift's research showed no advantage in
drying up, but more pain and discomfort. A well-fitting bra will do.
7. Expect substantial grieving and sadness, possibly for a long time, and
seriously consider seeking professional support. This is a very tough
decision.
