Dear Friends,
Maybe someone can help me out. I saw a mother 3 weeks p.p whose
breastfeeding had been going great until 2 days before she started having
radiating pains in her breast through her back and even her arm. This is
only on her left side. Mother described the pain as having nothing to do
with the nipple. It hurts all the time, and not worse when baby sucks.
Mother had an exam by a GP who told her everything is normal, I checked the
breat and felt no plugged ducts, lumps and saw no signs indicating thrush.
Also, if it could be thrush in the ducts is there such a thing as this
being unilateral? I asked mother if she possibly pulled a muscle and is
just thinking it is a BF problem when really not related. There was
nothing she can think of. Mother says she is literally jumping around from
the pain. Baby is latched well as far as I can see, making diapers,
gaining weight, swallows heard. Anyone have any ideas for me? I'm stumped.
As usual, Lactnet is a fantastic resource.
Thanks,
Jessica Billowitz
