Mother has been matched as a donor to a person needing a transplant.
There are two possible procedures, the traditional way (spinal/epidural
anesthesia with a needle to remove the marrow from the pubic bone), and a
new method, called PBSC, which involves injections with the drug
Filgrastim, and then apheresis collection of the stem cells.

Mother is still nursing 18 month old child (they wanted to defer her
because of the nursing, but didn't resist too hard when she insisted on
not being deferred). Since the Filgrastim is given by injection, it most
likely would be safe, but mother would like to hear from more
knowledgeable people about both options with respect to breastfeeding.
The Marrow Program people are clueless, which is why they wanted to defer
her.
