This is the oddest thing I have ever heard of! I don't have any research but
I have used the Haberman with many babies with a weak suck. All of these
babies could not feed properly from breast or bottle. Most tried to jaw
clamp to remove milk and that works well on a Haberman. Also, some could not
coordinate their suck, swallow, breathe and they can do this on the
Haberman. I would say try it and see if feeding improves. I have seen it
work wonders right away, I have also had one mom whose baby couldn't feed by
regular bottle or by breast (could not extract more than 1/2 ounce of milk
on either) and it took finger feeding for 3 times before baby could do the
Haberman -- but boy that baby took off and started feeding well and gaining
weight. I am pretty shocked that an IBCLC would not know of a Haberman for
weak sucking babies.

Best wishes, Kathy Eng, BSW, IBCLC
