I cannot speak to the content of protein and which part of the breastmilk it
falls into, but I do know that it is not uncommon for babies who are preemie
to have low to very low serum total proteins and albumins. Our docs are
using some form (there are several types - Promod, Casec and others) of
protein powder added to the EBM or formula even in addition to to the HMF
being added to EBM, so I don't think the HMF adds much in the way of
protein. I have seen some babies with low albumin/protein who become
severely fluid overloaded as a result of the osmolality being so off and
this does correct once the protein levels approach the normal range. What
surprises me is that the formula companies havn't come up with a protein
customized formula product to avoid having to add this to a preemies diet if
he is on formula.

This is all EXTREMELY interesting to me too!!!!!
