Permission to post from mom.
Mother called me today concerned because her frozen breastmilk is has a metallic
smell to it. She checked a few bags, from different dates, all about a month old. She
doesn't want to feed her baby the milk, because it smelled so bad.
I recently had a mother in one of my support groups complaining about the same
problem. Her baby refused the milk. I know milk can smell soapy, but what about
metal smelling? Is this one of the reasons to heat up milk after pumping, before
freezing it?
Thanks in advance.
Ayelet, IBCLC, CLC.
