One of the objections to only keeping moms and babies 48 hrs is that certain
heart defects show up later than 48 hours.  If everyone would follow AAP
guidelines (see baby within 48-72 hours after discharge) it would help in
many ways.  Insurance is usually the issue.  Baby isn't put into insurance
system quickly enough.  Peds should just expect to include a free office
visit in conjunction with what they are paid to see baby in hospital.
