Just to follow-up with my question as to how long glucose water can be used for supplementation, I was unable to find any mention in my conference notes from Jack Newman, but I did have someone send me the following:

"The third choice is plain sugar water, which can be used for about 24 to 48 hours." p. 86, Dr. Jack Newman's Guide to Breastfeeding (2000).

The question was from a prenatal client who gave birth at a hospital where glucose water was used as the supplement until her milk came in following the birth of her first 3 years ago.

Thank you to everyone for your responses, both on and off-list. Lactnet is amazing!
