I have been asked to testify as an expert in the field of lactation for a mother whose 7-year old child breastfed for 5 years. The father of this child does not want his child home schooled, so that he can pay less money for child support.
One of his claims to the judge will be that the mother breastfed for 5 years, and that this along with home schooling is making his child excessively needy for his mother.

This mother is a fellow staff member at my hospital, and she works almost full time. She is very stressed out about this situation, and has asked me to explain to the judge that she is not completely crazy for having breastfed for an extended period of time.

I have not done this before (but I've been asked a couple of times, it just didn't pan out). Any suggestions on how to talk to the judge about this? I want to help. I have a resource from La Leche League, and know about Kathy Dettwyler's work as well.

Thanks!!
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
