"naturalist" acts such as breastfeeding on demand 'makes the female into
an animal again' and is a rejection of the 'gains of the 21st century' (ie:
bottle feeding). She goes on to mention how by breastfeeding 24 hours a
day, a woman is 'reduced to her role as a nursing animal' and that the child
'becomes a factor in the separation of the couple'.

Hello all,

I just sent some thoughts on this to my 25 yr old son, in case any of his
friends read this non-wisdom. He is a huge supporter of breastfeeding and
loving parenting, and was quite outspoken in college, knowing him that has
not changed...:) SO: When did feminism become about denying what is unique
and amazing about being a woman, and all about jettisoning it to become more
masculine? I think she has her perspective backwards. Because some really
do not respect women, or our bodies, they set up beliefs to support the
lack of celebration and support. Is there really a phenomenon where when we
love one person that diminishes, rather than expands our love for others? It
feels exactly the opposite to me. Early mothering can feel very draining
in a society or time where neither women, nor the selves of babies, are
understood or valued, but for those who find the way to their "natures", the
experience is both transformative and empowering. As beings with bodies, we
celebrate them and experience life through them. Are we reduced when we use
our bodies "naturally" to eat and drink good, delicious foods from nature's
bounty and clean, tasty water, especially with those we love, or make love
to our partners? Maybe we should disengage and go with the gains we have
made using fast food in bags and boxes and tubes, and get some more
"appliances" to pass on our other satisfying natural behaviors to other things. A
bottle and a cloth covered substitute will be just as nourishing and
satisfying as a flesh mom who loves baby and gives of herself in so many ways (
all the while GETTING back in return something powerful but perhaps
intangible.) Oh wait those studies were already done years ago, thanks Harry
Harlow. I guess we are still living in GOON Park, despite that fact that we never
needed to go back there, it was pretty obvious the first time around :(

Peace,
Judy, referring to Love at GOON Park, by Deborah Blum, while ranting
powerfully and then having a nice breakfast since animals need to eat...
