We primarily go by the AAP guideline for our screening.

Some days there is pushback but overall we are pretty good at sticking to it. We also used the ABM protocol to write our guideline.

If supplementation is required we try to get babies to breast, if they won't feed we place skin to skin. We will try hand expression or pumping. If not adequate rise we will move to formula and our usual volume is 10-15cc. I have not seen any evidence that says more formula increases the blood sugar any better. I see reducing the stress in baby by placing STS as one of the biggest things that help with blood sugar.
