Hello, I'm new to posting here. I'm trying to create a care path for
postpartum RNs to guide them to help moms with breastfeeding in the 1st 24
hours. My question is...

If a baby attempts to breastfeed without an effective latch, is it
considered significant breastfeeding (in the first 24 hours of life)?

I have an educator that has read somewhere that even attempts at the breast
are sufficient even if there isn't an effective feeding, but I don't know
where she read it.

I would think that any stimulation to the breast would be helpful, but I
want to make sure that I give these RNs the correct information.

I would appreciate any opinions or direction to any research on this.

Thank you,
Mary Ann Velasco, RN, IBCLC, MSN
Madera, CA
