The marketing department at Chick-fil-A, a fast food restaurant, often
located in larger shopping malls, and now developing self-standing
drive-throughs/dine-ins like B-king, McD's, etc., is looking at the
following idea:

A couple of weeks before, and during World Breastfeeding Week,
Chick-fil-a -- which has a delightful ad campaign with cows encouraging
us to 'Eat mor chikin', and so on, would print up and use tray covers
with an ad featureing 2 cows and their calves. The slogan would read

"Cows udderly agree -- human milk is best for babies. World
Breastfeeding week, August 1 - 7"

Also, on the tray covers there would be a list of benefits of
breastfeeding for the baby, mom, and our governmental and health care
resources.

Another piece of the campaign would be to print the ad on T-shirts,
which could be ordered through their catalog. (Possibilities would also
include printed mugs, paper sacks which hold the food orders, etc.)

I am asking everyone who is an advocate of breastfeeding and/or an
advocate of people being informed so that educated health care decisions
can be made, to e-mail CFA through their website

http://www.chick-fil-a.com

and work through the menu to the customer feedback page.

Please keep the note *brief*. Simply state
1. You'd like them to adopt the campaign
2. To help them defray the costs, you will take your family of (#)
to CFA during WBW for a meal.
3. (If you can), commit to buy a t-shirt with the "Cows Udderly
Agree" ad.
4. If you like something else about CFA (i.e. their hiring practices
-- which includes the physically and mentally challenged --, their
company philosphy --posted at every restaurant --, their commitment to
families through their other promos, their food, etc) just state it
briefly.

If you can not get through, please try once or twice daily until you
can. Please, just one note per family. Even if a CFA is not near you,
you can offer to help them defray the costs by telling them you will
order a t-shirt. I don't know in just how many cities or states CFA is
located, but I've eaten at one in Texas, Georgia, and Virginia, so there
should be quite a few of us who could actually go to the site for a meal
that week.

Please copy this note, and distribute it to anyone within your realm of
influence -- professional, family, social, etc.) who might commit to
supporting this campaign in one of the above ways, and who will let CFA
know this via e-mail. (I have told women in my church who have
breastfed or who simply support the right to the information, and each
one said she would send CFA a note and commit to following through).

We have CFA's attention, and by working together to encourage others'
particiation, CFA may just go for it. I believe that such a promo
would generate significant media attention on the local level, and
possibly beyond, and further benefit our message as well as CFA's
reputation.

Breastfeeding support groups in each locale could plan to eat at CFA on
a certain day during WBW, bring their families, and have quite a
gathering. You might want to check with the local restaurant manager,
especially at mall locations, in advance to see if you could set up a
table with some literature.

For those locales which celebrate with a walk, a day at the zoo, etc.,
you might want to invite Chick-fil-A to bring sample T-shirts.
Sometimes the store can bring a supply of sandwiches and lemonade to set
up for concession (assuming that the authority at the location the event
is held is agreeable).

This promotion will fit nicely with the theme of WBW "Loving Support
Makes Breastfeeding Work" as CFA would be doing just that.

I believe that the first week of June will be crucial to their making
this decision. They would have limited time to prepare, so we need to
let them know NOW about any support we could give. If we are
successful, this could become a yearly thing, with variations of the cow
theme and slogans occuring for at least 5 - 10 years. Who knows? Maybe
other corporations would adopt a similar project if they see it was
successful for CFA.

Again, I do not own stock, nor work for, nor have a relative who works
for (as far as I know) CFA. They are simply a great company and whose
current ad campaign would be a wonderful association for this promo.

Please e-mail, fax, call, write others to contact CFA. I wil let
everyone know via some posts when I hear CFA's decision. Keep your
fingers crossed while sending those e-mails and making those calls to
others! Thanks,

Sandy
