My child has PVL.  As I understand it the children are ALWAYS classified
as CP.  And for a very high number the severity of CP is high.  I would
not share this info with her.  She should be given time to come to terms
with this as it applies to her situation.  A high number of these babies
are failure to thrive with reflux, weak suck, sleepiness etc.  My son was
failure to thrive even though I breastfed him non stop.  He had severe
reflux and I dont believe his suck was good and while I could pump a good
amount, he could not gain weight.  She is right to be vigilant about
making sure the baby eats well.  Perhaps a LC could check babies suck and
some oral therapy could be prescribed that might help him with
sucking/latching?
